Layers are a great way to get hair to lay smooth and style right. Layers are shorter lengths of hair mixed in with longer lengths. Many men with thick, coarse hair get layers to help the hair lay smooth and not appear so bulky.

Layers can be added to any length of hairstyle. Another great option for extra thick or coarse hair is hair thinning. The stylist can take out a lot of the thickness by cutting random pieces and texturizing sections or ends of the hair.
