Favorite Prom Hair Styles

Every year there are more and more prom hair styles to choose from.  Some hair styles look great and some are obvious fads that probably won't be so popular the next year.

Check out our Editor's favorite picks for prom hair styles that have great appeal year after year.  Copy one of these styles for yourself.  It is never too early to decide on your prom hair style and start practicing with your own hair, or better yet, taking a photo into your hair stylist for a trial run.

By getting a trial run with a professional hair stylist, you will be able to see exactly what you will look like with your hairdo and exactly how the hair will look with the dress you have picked out.  What better way to avoid last minute surprises and problems with your hair style?

The trial run will also allow you to find out if your hair style has staying power.  That means, will it survive a night of dancing and activities?  If your elaborate updo falls down after a couple hours, or all the bobby pins in your hair start to make your scalp itch, maybe you need to find another hair style.

Below are the Hair ZINGERS Editor's favorite picks for Prom Hair Styles.

1.  favorite prom updo hair styleUpdo hair style with side-swept bangs.  This hair style has been around for years and continues to be a favorite among many prom attendees.  All of the hair is pulled loosely back into a chignon and pinned into place.

Side swept bangs are left out along with a few wispy strands on the sides of the head.  Use a small barrel curling iron to add corkscrew-like curls to these wispy strands and run a flat iron over the side-swept bangs for extra smoothness.

favorite long wavy hair style2.  Long, full and wavy.  You can never go wrong with long wavy or curly hair.  Add a volumizer product to the roots and blow dry the hair using a large round brush.  Hold the blow dryer on pulled back sections at the root to add height and volume in this area.

Next add all over curls/waves with a medium barrel curling iron or hot rollers.

This is a sizzling prom hair style.

3.  Partial Updo Prom Hair Style.  This style can be created by pulling back all of the hair in the crown area and securing it with a low ponytail.  If you want the extra height in the crown area, simply back comb small sections of hair, smooth over the top, before pulling it back.

This hair style will be seen every year at the prom as it has staying power.
